4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting Pontone Gallery, which featured the artist Reisha Perlmutter.
Artist: Reisha Perlmutter
Reisha Perlmutter is a figurative artist known for her intricate and intimate depictions of the female body. Through her masterful technique, she creates hyper-realistic portrayals that evoke a powerful sense of physical presence. Her subjects, often captured in serene, aquatic settings, reflect a harmonious and nurturing relationship with nature, symbolising tranquility and integration.
In her work, Perlmutter’s models float, swim, and immerse themselves in water, seamlessly interacting with the liquid medium that envelops them. Whether submerged or partially revealed, they appear at ease, with the water gently modifying their forms, creating a dynamic interplay of light, colour, and contour. The artist’s skilful manipulation of paint brings this underwater world to life, showcasing the subtle changes in texture and form.
Her recent paintings have turned their focus to the human head, especially the flowing movement of hair in water. As it swirls, curls, and obscures the features of her subjects, a sense of mystery is evoked. These works draw on art historical references to Nereids, Sirens, and mermaids—figures from classical mythology and folklore—suggesting a more enigmatic and sometimes darker expression of feminine spirit. Through this lens, Perlmutter’s work invites contemplation of both the beauty and complexity of the female form and its relationship to water.
